Children’s Dentistry – Well-Baby Visit
At Dartmouth Dental Centre, we believe that prevention is the foundation that can give you a healthy smile for life! Our "Well-Baby Visit” was developed to help families understand and learn about the importance of early oral care.
Following the recommendations from the Canadian Dental Association and our IWK dentists, the children should be examined by their dentist 6 months after the eruption of their first tooth. This would mean that your child’s first visit would be between ages 12-18 months. A specific appointment has been designed by our team to set a dental foundation for your family.
It is important for parents to remember that bringing a child for dental appointments at a young age can help reduce the fear and anxiety usually associated with dentists. Our dental team is very friendly and careful when examining your child. A risk assessment for the development of cavities is done. A guardian or a parent will always be present to make our young patients feel safe. We have many quick and playful techniques that help us in treating your child comfortably.
During the appointment, the guardian and parents will be given information about oral health practices. We will answer all your questions and address any concerns you may have.
After the well-baby visit, we recommend regular dental check-ups and cleaning starting at the age of 3. Your child’s teeth development will be monitored in addition to informing them about good oral home care. Children of all ages are welcome at Dartmouth Dental Centre. We provide many different types of treatments such as fillings, extractions, sealants, space maintainers, and some orthodontic appliances for children.
Geriatric Dentistry
Dartmouth Dental Centre provides geriatric dentistry services as well. As we age, cognitive function and manual dexterity decrease, and caring for your teeth becomes difficult. Our experience and knowledge enable us to understand the needs of geriatric patients. General health conditions and prescribed medications are the main reasons why this population often suffers from oral conditions such as root cavities and extremely dry mouth (xerostomia). We greatly respect and enjoy working with our geriatric patients.
